Drawlloween 2020 Block 2: Covid Haircuts

Élysée Treaty
1 1/2 oz. Courvoisier Cognac
3/4 oz. Jägermeister
3/4 oz. Simple Syrup
5 dashes Hella Bitters Orange
2 wide strips of Orange Zest

Shake everything with ice, including the zest and double strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with an Orange Twist.

This block ends with everything returning to normal after some experimental reagents were used as hair care products. The drink they make a pact to is the Élysée Treaty that would seem to be a variation of the Treaty of Paris. While I don’t usually turn down an opportunity to make an Egg White Cocktail, I chose this variation for the novelty of using Jägermeister and the lack of desire to open a Champagne bottle, even a small one, just to make this. I am once again amazed at how well Jäger works when used with reserve.

Normally a drink like this would normally be stirred, having only spirits and sugar, but the addition of the zest requires a good shaking to get all those oils into the taste. One thing I did differently was to actually zest the orange into the shaker instead of just adding strips. This would have worked out better if I remembered to double strain the drink into the glass. That said, I’m not unhappy with the taste, certainly not over zesty or Jägery, and it’s actually quite refreshing.
