Pandemic Dram: Corsair Triple Smoke

I’ve been neglected in drinking or posting drinks for quite a while now, really didn’t get back into much after surgery last year to give the gut a chance to get used to its new state. What better time to get back into it all than a pandemic.

Tonight’s Pandemic Dram was given to me by a friend who moved down to Tennessee a while back and wanted to get me a bottle of something local. I’ve seen Corsair spirits here and there but never got a chance to try any.

While this certainly is a smokey whiskey, I expected something different from an American Single Malt. With a name like “Triple Smoke”, I expected an over the top, extreme extra smokey campfire with little or no other flavor, much like the old trend of super-hopped IPAs that all tried to out Hop each other with excessive Hoppiness. This, however, had a lovely clear nose and a lot of subtlety in its smokiness.

The nose has smoke, as advertised, but it sits above a sweetness, like a caramel apple next to some BBQ wings. The taste quickly spreads out from an initial  pitfruit sweetness to its smokiness, a hint of peat and ends a bit spicy. While this is technically a Single Malt, this is a unique whiskey that makes me think of a balanced mashup of Smokey Scotch, Sweet Bourbon, and Spicy Rye. Made in Nashville, this is definitely made by whiskey lovers who seemed to try a combination of all of their favorite bits in one whiskey.

I may add an actual review thing for these Pandemic Drams like I did with my Absinthe Reviews if it seems like I’ll do some others. For now, stay safe, keep your distance and enjoy the little things.
