Goddess of Fall on Thanksgiving

1 oz Rittenhouse Rye
1 oz Ole Smokey Apple Pie Moonshine
1/2 oz Cruzan Blackstrap Rum
1/2 oz Pure Maple Syrup
1/2 oz SNAP Ginger Liqueur
1/4 oz Goldschläger

1 bsp Bitter Truth Allspice Dram
2 dashes Jerry Thomas Bitters

If making as a single cocktail: Stir all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled Old Fashioned glass, stir again with a Cinnamon stick placed in the glass. Further garnish with ground Nutmeg.

This Thanksgiving I wanted to make a decidedly versatile Fall cocktail that could be made and served in many different ways. I decided to build this as a ~24 oz, pre-batched concoction that could be then served neat, on the rocks, as a toddy or even with soda, cider or ginger beer/ale. The full bottle measurements are as follows:

6 oz Rittenhouse Rye
6 oz Ole Smokey Apple Pie Moonshine
3 oz Cruzan Blackstrap Rum
3 oz Pure Maple Syrup
3 oz SNAP Ginger Liqueur
1 1/2 oz Goldschläger

1 oz Bitter Truth Allspice Dram
1/2 oz Jerry Thomas Bitters

Add all items into a full 750ml bottle with 3-4 Cinnamon sticks and swirl to mix, don’t shake. Serve 1 1/2 – 2 oz either neat, on the rocks, in hot water or tea, or with soda, cider or Ginger beer/ale. Garnish with ground Nutmeg and another Cinnamon stick if desired.

This was very loosely inspired by the Flapjack Old Fashioned I came across looking for Whiskey/Maple drinks to make for the Holiday. I give credit to that for the idea of adding a Blackstrap Rum for some added Molasses flavor but I diverted completely away after that as I wanted more spiciness and holiday goodness.

One thing I did do was to mix the Maple with the Rum ahead of time in a mixing glass just to thin out the Maple a bit to have it mix better in the end. Maple syrup doesn’t seem to have quite the same problem that Honey has going quickly into solution but I wanted to make sure that it was well blended before hitting the bottle. I threw in the Goldschläger as a last minute thing to add a little more Cinnamon to the mix outside of just a stick since I thought of making this long after I thought it Cinnamon sticks would have enough time to draw out the flavor. There was a very brief moment when I considered adding some Fireball Whiskey for that effect but quickly chided myself for even considering using that liquid abomination in anything I considered serving to loved ones.
