Sunset Cocktail: The Undertaker on the Start of National Bourbon Heritage Month

1 1/2 oz Michter’s Small Batch Original Bourbon
1/2 oz Grand Marnier
1/4 oz Cynar
1/2 oz Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice

Shake everything with ice and strain into a chilled Cocktail glass. Garnish with and Orange Twist.

September is National Bourbon Heritage Month. I don’t see myself making a drink everyday but I’ll try to keep the ones I do make this month to be predominantly Bourbon Drinks, except on National Crème de Menthe Day and National Rum Punch Day. We’ll see about International Coffee Day.

This drink called for a spicy Bourbon and I’d imagine that a Rye would work well. If I had any Redemption High Rye Bourbon I probably would have used that. This has a perfect citrus front without even remotely resembling a sour. This is the level of citrus I really like in a drink. It does benefit from an extensive Orange peel expression over the glass. The recipe called for an Orange twist but I went with a strip. I wanted to see just how much citrus oil I could get from a channeling a strip and I wasn’t disappointing.
