Mythos Absinthe Cocktail: Pickman’s Muse

2 oz Woodford Reserve Distiller’s Select Rye
1 oz Cardamaro
1/4 oz H.R. Giger Absinthe Brevans
1 bsp Bitter Truth Pimento Dram
2 dashes Bittermens Xocolatl Mole Bitters

Stir everything with ice and strain into a chilled Cocktail glass.

A new Mythos Absinthe Cocktail based on the McClellan’s Curse. I waxed and waned about naming it after the original story, Pickman’s Model, or the wonderfully atmospheric film adaptation of that story, Pickman’s Muse. I felt that Pickman’s Muse flowed better and it was the title that was triggered in my head when I was thinking of making a variation of “McLellan’s Curse”.

I first tried this with Averna instead of Cardamaro and I guess I could have also added this to the Blackened Cocktail list as well if this variation was a swap of Averna for the Vermouth in the original instead. The Cardamaro worked with the rest of the flavors better than I’d hoped. In fact the finish slowly builds to an almost candy-like aftertaste in complete contrast to the initial Herbal/Rye flavor it starts with.

I’ve been pushing a bit on more Mythos Absinthe Cocktails as I want to make a print collection of them before too long. Some still need some work and I haven’t quite figured out all of the details on how I’m going to go about it. I also have another thing planned aside from Drawloween to bring back Yebb and Nugg cartoons and I may use the story of what I think the McClellan’s Curse is based on for one of the installments. Time will tell.
