Old Yog

In his bar at R’lyeh buzzed Cthulhu waits drinking . . .

It only seemed fitting to add another Absinthe based Mythos Cocktail to the list once this Cthulhu Tiki Cup arrived from awesomedrinks.com. The other drinks in the series so far can be found in the links on the side of the page. So, in addition to The Eldritch Storm Cocktail, The Long Innsmouth Iced Tea and The Dunwich Fizz, I introduce The Old Yog!

I love rum but I’m not a big fan of super sour-sweet drinks. It is, however, the dead of Summer and I now own a Tiki Cup so I wanted to make something fitting for the season and the cup’s malfeasance magnificence.

It originally was going to be a variation of the Navy Grog though it’s probably closer to a Zombie. If I had any 151 to pour over the top I guess it would be even more so.  I didn’t want to use any Grapefruit Juice so opted instead for Pineapple, though there is not much Juice in it at all. There is also Lime juice since I juiced the Lime after making the Lime tentacles.

With 3 types of rum and the addition of Absinthe, it turned out really strong. Adding a little 151 would have made it a complete asskicker. It also didn’t help that since I was so excited to get the cup, make the drink, watch the sunset and then the subsequent storm, that I totally forgot to eat.

Old Yog

1 oz. White Rum
1 oz. Light or Gold Rum
1 oz. Dark or Black Rum+
1/2 oz. Absinthe
1 oz. Pineapple Juice
1/2 oz. Lime Juice
1/2 oz. Blood Orange Syrup
2 dashes Wormwood Bitters

Shake the ingredients with ice and pour into a collins glass or a tiki glass filled with crushed ice (especially if you have a Cthulhu Tiki Mug, by Horror In Clay from awesomedrinks.com). Top with a bit more Dark Rum and garnish with lime tentacles.
