After posting the last drink I was going through some old pictures because I felt that my older drinks at sunset pics looked a whole lot nicer than recent ones and wanted to compare. I came across this picture from the beginning of the fall last year, finally finding the Mythos Collins drink I made and forgot about. I changed it a bit from back then, traded the Ginger Beer for Club Soda to make it more of a Collins drink (and everything I made back then had Ginger Beer in it), added Absinthe (to keep it in line with the Absinthe/ Mythos theme) and changed the Maraschino Liqueur to Creme de Violette so it's a colder, deeper color.
2 oz Spiced Black Rum (Kraken)
1/4 oz Absinthe
1 oz fresh Lime Juice
1/2 oz Vanilla Simple Syrup
3 oz Club Soda
1/4 oz Creme de Violette
Add the first four ingredients to a mixing glass and stir with ice. Strain into a Collins glass with several cubes of ice. Fill with Club Soda and top with Creme de Violette for a color of the deep, Garnish with the lime slice and the cherry.
One thing that I wasn't sure of was using a Lemon or Lime. Generally I like Lemon a lot better but there are times when, again, too much Lemon with sugariness sickens me like a cheap sour mix. The final decision to keep it as Lime here was based on the thought that I'm pretty sure the Royal Navy had switched from Lemons to Limes to prevent scurvy at the time Call of Cthulhu was to have happened. Whatever the reason, Lime did work great here.
While Captain Collins didn't last long in the Lovecraftian universe as he was killed by the "evil looking crew" of Cultists on the heavily armored steamboat named The Alert, at least he didn't die of scurvy or sobriety.
